Testing Information
SAT, ACT, & SAT Subject Tests
-Most four year colleges require that a student take either the SAT or the ACT. The SAT is offered seven times a year and students choose when they want to take the test. Register at www.collegeboard.org/SAT.
-Many colleges super score, which means they take the top SAT Reading and top SAT Math score and/or best ACT composite. Because of this students take the test multiple times. Although there are a number of suggested strategies, one that is recommended by a number educators is to take the test twice during the Spring of the Junior year and once, if needed, during the fall of the Senior year. Khan Academy is a free online learning site to do SAT prep.
-There is no harm with a student taking the SAT as a Sophomore, however, the student should plan on taking the PSAT in the fall of the Junior year regardless of when the SAT is taken. The National Merit Scholarship Program (PSAT/NMSQT) is only offered to Juniors taking the PSAT.

Each test is one hour long.

ADMISSIONS TESTING

The College Board through the Educational Testing Service administers the SAT I, SAT II, PSAT, Advanced Placement, TOEFL (Test of English as a Second Language), along with many other standardized testing programs.
ACT (formerly American College Testing) administers the ACT Assessment which is another standardized college admissions test battery that is accepted at most colleges and universities as an alternative to the SAT.

The Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) is for students whose native language is not English and have not lived in an English speaking country for very long. It is submitted in addition to the SAT and effectively replaces the Critical Reading section in college admissions deliberations.
