Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS)
Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) is a school-based support system designed to assist students who may be experiencing academic, behavioral, or social-emotional challenges. The I&RS team consists of administrators, teachers, counselors, and other support staff who collaborate to identify concerns and implement individualized strategies that promote student success. The team meets regularly to review referrals, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed. Referrals can be submitted by staff members, parents or guardians, peers, or the students themselves. When a student is determined to need I&RS services, a case manager is assigned to provide ongoing support and guide the implementation of the recommended strategies. In some cases, I&RS may not be the most appropriate response to the presenting concerns, and alternative school-based supports or external resources may be recommended. Confidentiality is upheld throughout the entire process to ensure the privacy and dignity of each student. The ultimate goal of I&RS is to provide timely, meaningful support that empowers students to overcome challenges and thrive both academically and personally.
